Bowhunting

The report is now in on another great hunting season for 2007.   Please check in at Hunt News for details of our guests latest hunting experience, including a photo sample.

We have successfully guided bowhunters for both woodland caribou and moose, with all our regular guides have been  involved with successful archery hunts during the past few hunting  seasons.   A wise person once said there is no substitute for experience, and our guides certainly rely on the knowledge gained from past experiences with  bowhunting clients to fully benefit future archery hunting clients.  There is much to understand when bowhunting  that is different from other hunting methods.  The open terrain presents some challenges that must be tackled properly in order for a bowhunter to harvest a good quality trophy rack.    Also, the resident nature of our herds and the remote locations of our facilities, allows us to hunt directly from modern, full-service lodges, with no need for primitive spike or tent camps.    Spotting of animals directly from the lodge is not only possible, but has come to be expected.

One of the business owners has been largely involved with our bowhunting activities and being a successful  archery caribou hunter himself for 6 years, has much more than just basic knowledge about what is required to be successful in this method of hunting our big game.   As well,     While this hunting method is quite challenging, it is very achievable, and we feel quite confident in our ability to provide excellent opportunity for a successful hunt.

Why Hunt?

While for the past 8 years our archery hunting has been focused on the woodland caribou, recent increase in populations dictate that we will now be accepting additional moose hunters, which will increase opportunities for bow hunting this magnificent and very challenging big game species.

Our newest lodge, Caribou Lodge has proven to exceed all expectations during it's six years of caribou hunting operation.   We are excited about the increased moose population of that area and really look forward to now being able to hunt moose from that great facility.  Rocky Ridge Lodge has continued to offer a superior hunting atmosphere with very consistent hunting action and associated success rates.  Both Rocky Ridge and Caribou lodges offer boating on lakes to assist in spotting for animals, and both have canoe accessed waterways which add a different aspect to hunting techniques, appealing to most who enjoy wilderness canoe travel. Salmon Brook Lodge and The Forks lodge have continued to provide our overall largest trophy moose during most hunting seasons, however both Rocky Ridge and Caribou Lodges have shown increased moose sightings, including some excellent trophy bulls over the past couple of years.

Fall 2005 saw Larry D. Jones and Jeff Waring of Bowhunter Magazine participate in a very successful archery woodland caribou hunt at our Caribou Lodge.  As a result, there was an article published in the 2006 Big Game Special edition of that magazine, as well as a production for the Bowhunter  TV series.

Past issues of Bowhunting (Big Game Special Edition 2004 & Aug/Sept, 2003), January, 2004 issue of Bow & Arrow and Bowhunting World (Extreme edition, summer 2003) magazines have featured first person accounts of archery caribou hunts at our lodges.   The hunts occurred at 2 different lodges and would provide any interested individual or group with an excellent understanding  of the  bowhunting experience that our operation delivers.  As well, there is another article in the June issue of Eastern Woods & Waters magazine on a caribou hunt/photography experience at our Caribou Lodge in 2002. The Bowhunter article can be viewed at http://www.bowhunter.com/feature_articles/bn_bg03_rattlingcaribou/

Also, as the result of a very successful and extremely exciting archery caribou hunt by Larry D. Jones at our Caribou Lodge during the fall of 2003, a great TV show was produced.  This show aired on the MEN's channel, channel 218 on DISH network.   The show was part of a series entitled The Art Of Deception and copies may be obtained through the site www.ArtofDeceptionTV.com .

The commitment of our outfitting business to archery woodland caribou hunting has been extensive and we are in the process of doing the same for moose.   Our staff has developed great passion and dedication to bowhunting methods, and we have been successful in establishing novel techniques to give our hunters a better opportunity of getting within bow range of good quality trophy animals.
