WILDERNESS FLYFISHING

Our all fly fishing web site is waiting for your viewing at www.flyfishinggreyriver.com
Salmon
fishing season on Grey River runs from mid-June to late August,
with our peak period usually lying from opening day through to
late July. Most of our fish are grilse in the four to six
pound range, but numbers of larger eight to twelve pound salmon
have been increasing slowly, but steadily since the closure of
commercial salmon fishing off our coasts.
The report is now in on a spectacular fly fishing season for 2011 Please check in at Fish News for details of the incredible fly fishing action our guests encountered this summer.
Also, check in at Fishing Photos for a pictorial sample of some of our flyfishing action.
Over the 18 years of our operation,
guests of Grey River Lodge, including many novice anglers, have
achieved very high standards of angling success while pursuing the
very elusive Atlantic Salmon. These bright and vibrant fighters
are bound to thrill even the most seasoned flyfisher.
Some of the best action is available adjacent to
the lodge, but for those who are more adventurous and interested in doing some
hiking, an unlimited number
of excellent pools( many of them as yet unnamed ) await either up
or down stream. Angling can be done by wading or simply
standing on the rocky shoreline.
While regular fly fishing equipment and the standard
salmon flies are recommended, it is the action on dry flies which
has most excited anglers at Grey River. With the very low
fishing pressure and the large number of quality pools available,
a very relaxed and free fishing timetable exists.
Little wonder our percentage of repeat clients is extremely high.
Our lodge called "The Forks" accepts parties of up to eight anglers, while at our second lodge "Salmon Brook" ( tributary of the main Grey River ) we generally limit our groups to parties of four in order to better preserve the world class type angling we demand in this smaller water. We are committed to providing the highest possible quality of fly fishing for all our clients, and this is now taken for granted by most who are familiar with our operation.
The standard trip is for five nights at
the lodge with parts of six days fishing. Access is via
helicopter directly to the lodge from the helicopter base located
just a few minutes drive from the airport at Deer Lake
NL. It is possible to customize our packages to an
individual's requests, but early booking will help greatly in this
regard.
Over the years, Grey River Lodge has been host to a great many novice fly fishers, almost all of whom managed to land their very first Atlantic salmon under our guidance. We take great pride in this achievement and issue a very special welcome to all newcomers to the marvelous outdoor sport of fly fishing. To strengthen our commitment to the novice, we have obtained a supply of fly fishing equipment which is available for use at our lodges free of charge to those not yet fully equipped for their trial fly fishing period. As well, we welcome couples and families at our lodges, who are sure to find our facilities extremely well suited to their needs.
Our top notch salmon fishing is unquestionable. Some say the spectacular locations of our lodges is what sets us apart from others. But the most frequent compliment from our guests is regarding our tremendous staff and their willingness to do almost anything to ensure total guest satisfaction.
With many of our 2010 fly fishing season guests already
reserved for the 2011 season, our schedule is mostly in
place. There are, however, some very good openings still
remaining, but don't delay, as they are sure to fill far in
advance of the salmon fishing season.
Come fish with us soon at Grey River Lodge.
